If you are anything like me you are cleaning the clutter out of your house right now. I love the end of the year; it is the perfect time for me to rid my mind, house and car of all the things cluttering it up and start with a fresh slate in the New Year. And we are stuck inside anyways, because honestly who wants to be out in this cold!! Between upgraded items from holiday presents, to worn out items that need to be tossed; now is the perfect time to be going through your house and ridding it of anything you no longer use. Cleaning things out really helps clear your mind and makes tackling those goals in 2018 easier!
I know figuring out where to donate can be a hassle so I am making it easy! Below are the local organizations that are taking gently used items, click on their name for more information about what donations they will accept and what hours they are open.
Safe House for Women
This is a great place to drop off clothing and household items. While they will accept furniture and electronics, make sure they are smaller items. If you have a question about the size of an item you are wanting to donate just call them before loading it up and heading their way!
Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary
This organization will take almost any home goods, clothing, toys and books. They resale it in their thrift store.
Habitate for Humanity - Restore
Used mostly for building supplies, they will take anything home improvement related. Think paint you no longer need (but is still usable), old tools, left over building supplies. Clean out those garages and sheds!
This organization will take almost any used item for resale in their thrift store. They will also pick up large items that are not easily moved (think large furniture, pianos, etc.).
Hope Children's Home
The link has all the items they currently need. This organization needs mostly new items, but will also take used children's clothing (in good condition) for their clothing closet. They also request donations of gift cards to restaurants, play places, and home improvement stores.
The thrift store will take almost anything, including appliances!! And used cars and boats. If you are taking a larger item make sure to call ahead!
They focus mainly on clothing and some home goods. They will refuse old TV's and electronics (so don't try to take them, you'll just get frustrated!)
We all have those items that are not worth donating and just really need to be tossed. Here are some helpful links when getting rid of things in the City of Cape Girardeau.
Call and schedule a pick up of items that won't fit in your regular garbage cans, it is an extra cost, but well worth not having to load it up and haul it somewhere yourself!
Have all your trash loaded up and just want it off your hands? Take it to the transfer station. While they do charge, it is a great option if you have tons to get rid of!
Here is the holiday schedule for trash and recycling pick up!
Leaf Pick Up
Are you still like us and have leaves in your yard? The City picks them up until March 30th! Woo - Hoo!
Cheers to cleaning out and organizing so we can start 2018 with our best foot forward!
(If you have an organization you would like added to the list, please email me at email@example.com and we will get it added!)
